Is It Over?

SPOILERS AHEAD. I’ve hidden this page–and even given it a vague title–to keep those who haven’t read “The Deepest of Secrets” from stumbling over it. If you somehow have, please turn back now 🙂

If you know someone who also wants these answers, feel free to pass them the link. Please do not post any of these details online. There will be a more formal announcement of the new series this spring. For now, shhh… People are still reading 😉

Still here? Then you’ve read “The Deepest of Secrets” and know that Rockton is no more. Literally no more, having been not only closed down but physically dismantled.

I have always said that I won’t continue a series past the point where my narrator has accomplished the primary goal, and for Rockton, that was solving the mystery of the hostiles and breaking free from the council’s control.

As readers could see the series winding down, they made it clear they weren’t done with these characters. My publisher also wasn’t done with the series and asked me to consider a spin-off. I happily pitched them a concept. I had the trifecta I needed to continue: readers wanted more, the publisher wanted more, and I was happy to write more.

As a reader, you may be saying you’re done, thanks. And that’s okay! I know that some readers feel an obligation to continue reading a series even after they’ve tired of it, and that’s where Deepest really can mark the end point. Rockton is now a complete series, and those readers can set it aside and move on.

For those who want to return, I’m sure you know what my “spin-off” will be. In Deepest, Casey and Eric committed to the huge step of creating their own Rockton, where they can feel they are fulfilling the promise they make to residents–that they have come to a place of sanctuary. Their new town name reflects that: Haven’s Rock (for sanctuary and a shout-out to its origins)

How well does this plan go? Well, the first book will be called “Murder at Haven’s Rock” LOL Don’t blame Casey and Eric too quickly–they’re still living down south when they’re called in to investigate the disappearance of two construction crew members. But this is a mystery series, and Casey and Eric are going to discover that being in charge doesn’t mean being in control. It just means that when things go wrong, you don’t have anyone else to blame. There will be a learning curve as they deal with their new environment, new neighbors and new procedures for vetting residents.

I’m also planning a novella to bridge the two series (taking place between the two.) There will be a mystery. It might not be murder (they really do need a break.) I haven’t decided whether it will be from Casey’s POV or another character’s (Eric? April? Isabel?) If you have a preference–Casey’s POV or another specific characters, please comment below.

  1. Ooh! I knew the ending could have gone one of two ways. Following Casey and Dalton to the new Rockton, or following The Council to their new location.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these characters!

  2. I want more April Please! So excited for more!

  3. I would love for the novella to be split between Casey’s and Eric’s point of view! I trust in Casey’s perspective, but I am curious as to how Eric thinks through problems and what he thinks of his relationships with other characters. I really enjoyed getting some novellas from Clays point of view in the Otherworld series for this same reason.

  4. I’ve been binge reading the entire series and am so happy that there will be more! I would love a novella from Eric’s POV, or a whole 3rd person series split between the main characters.

I always need more of all these characters! Thank you so much. I would like a POV from both Casey and Eric. Love this news!!

  6. Thank goodness, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Casey

  7. Love it! Looking forward to it already! In terms of the novella an Isabelle, Sebastian or Mathias perspective could be really interesting!
I had wondered if the new series may be written with a focus on different characters and their back stories as the series progresses, in the same way that happened with the Otherworld and, much as I love Casey, that could be fun too.
    Thank you and can’t wait!

  9. Yasssssss! I’m so happy that we’ll get more Casey and Eric.

  10. I would like the novella to be split between Casey and Eric’s perspective

I would love Eric’s perspective and feelings as he makes the transition from Rockton to Haven’s Rock!

  12. Sarah Bibby says:

Fantastic – can’t wait! Loved all 7 Rockton books but am intrigued to see what happens next. I’d love to see a novella from Isabel’s point of view, we don’t know much about her before Rockton and it might be interesting to get inside her head a bit! I loved the change of narrator in the Women of the Otherworld series and it might be nice to see that happen with these a little too, even if just in novella form.

  13. Ceci marlow says:

Absolutely the best mystery series I’ve read and I’ve been reading mysteries for over 50 years! So glad I can see the “new Rockton” in the future. And, if art imitates life, that if I ever needed it, I could find it!

  14. Victoria Pais says:

so happy this series, almost series will continue. I think Eric’s POV but i do like Caseys POV.

  15. Doriene Smither says:

Oooh! April’s POV would be fun, and interesting, too!

  16. Barb Nickelsen says:

My heart is so happy! I’m not ready to be done with Casey, Eric, et al! I would love to have the novella either be from Eric’s point of view. If not Eric, then Isobel who can then give an “outsider’s” (so-to-speak) view of Casey and Eric and the new community.

  17. I am so glad there will be a continuation. I would love to hear Eric’s POV or April’s because their POV would be different than a lot of folks. Eric because of his history and April because of her likely diagnosis.

  18. Whoot!
    Eric & Casey, being smexy…
    How about from Sebastian’s pov?

  19. Will with a bit from others here and there
